Sitting on a barstool in Starkville, Mississippi a good friend leaned over an said, “I’ve got an idea.”
Hobie Hobart began to explain his concept behind a magazine dedicated to exploring “Southern Culture” from a man’s point of view. A publication that provided stories from days gone by that our grandfather’s had shared. There would be useful things to pass on to your kids like, how to tie knots, run trot-lines, or how to tie your tie.
Certainly, the Southern Gentleman would explain the social graces that have seemingly been forgotten, but it would also include the how to grow a garden and hunt wild game. His vision was simply a well-rounded look into the life of a Southern Gentleman.
Fast forward a decade… you know sometimes great ideas have to marinate for a bit. Here we are with TheSouthernGent.com. Inside you’ll find our take on life as we see it. We will share things we consider useful in today’s world, which might include a suggestion for the right bourbon to pour tonight, or tips on improving your hunting spot.
So, sit back and enjoy the site. Please feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions so that the site may grow and evolve.
